Young Achiever sets direction on parental example forged in fire storm and flood

The annual Caravan and Camping Industry Association of NSW (CCIA) Awards of Excellence Gala Dinner at The Sheraton on The Park in Sydney recognises caravan, RV and camping businesses for industry excellence across 24 categories.

In addition to Awards of Excellence, 27 Gumnut Awards were presented to park and trade businesses who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to environmental sustainability.

Ballweight hiccup but Santa's Sleigh Santa Fe R comes through with relaxed, fuel efficient towing

GoSee got the ballweight wrong on our 2416km plus tow tug evaluation with the new Green R Hyundai Santa Fe R auto diesel. Hyundai says 150kg maximum ballweight.

But a weighbridge check shows we had 170kg.

So we trimmed our rig. We used our Hayman Reese digital scales and checked the Jayco Discovery ballweight again. This time 147kg.

Just under the Hyundai 150kg towball down-weight maximum and 436Nm torque from the 2.2 diesel feed smoothly to solid road grip through the Santa Fe R's traction control.

Green R Santa Fe R tow tug shows serious grunt in Clyde Mountain test climb

Day 7 of extended practical evaluation and GoSee is impressed with the Green R Santa Fe R and its serious sustained tow tug grunt on one of Australia's real towing test tracks.

Clyde Mountain on the Kings Highway route from Batemans Bay NSW to Canberra ACT is no place for tow tug pretenders and the Santa Fe R shows itself as a bulldog with big torque teeth for its type.

Willing Hyundai shows poise as GoSee takes Slippery When Wet coastal touring route

After four days and 793km of towing the Green R Hyundai Santa Fe R 2.2 auto diesel is doing particularly well with fuel use figures ranging from 10.58 to 12.5 litres per 100 km.

The Jayco Discovery pop-top caravan is a good match for the Hyundai Santa Fe R and follows the Hyundai's lead.

GoSee evaluates Hyundai Santa Fe CRDi 2.2 Diesel as tow tug

GoSee is evaluating the new Hyundai Santa Fe CRDi 2.2 Diesel auto as a tow tug for the popular Jayco Discovery 16.52 pop-top we use as a regular travelling companion.

GoSee is at Orbost Caravan Park at day two of an extended towing trip which will take us up the Victorian and NSW coast to Bateman's Bay.

The route is then via Canberra and the ACT to the Olympic Way via Junee and on to Albury, Seymour, and Yarra Glen to return to our start point in the Melbourne Port Phillip bayside suburb of Bonbeach Victoria.

NSW trails stamp duty free states with significantly higher caravan rego

NSW is still the most expensive of Australia's stamp duty free states in which to register a caravan or camper.

Only the ACT charges higher registration now that it has just dropped stamp duty.

It is certain that Australian RV buying and registration decisions are being coloured by this, probably with NSW buyers and sellers the losers.

'Designated camping areas only' New Zealand Freedom Camping Forum tells Campervan hirers

Campervan hirers are to be told it is not acceptable to camp anywhere but designated camping areas, the New Zealand Freedom Camping Forum has agreed, PR.co.nz online press release service for New Zealand reports.

People hiring non-self-contained vehicles will be instructed not to freedom camp. They will be directed to designated camping areas, like Holiday Parks, Department of Conservation (DOC) camp sites and other designated camping spaces.

Clearview takes towing mirror design to a new level

GoSee is road testing a towing product which takes towing mirrors to a new level. Clearview Towing Mirrors has produced something really different.

At this stage of development the Australian designed and tested Clearview mirrors bolt onto the Toyota Landcruiser 100 Series and the Nissan GU Patrol.

Modifications are being designed to suit other popular towing tugs. These include the 200 and 80 Series Landcruiser, Ford 250 and 350 F Series trucks and the Navara, Hi Lux and Prado.

Caravan and RV Leave no Trace drive faces Dump Point issues as Australian road travel growth pressures environment

There is only one public Dump Point for thousands of road touring caravans and Recreational Vehicles (RV's) which travel between Melbourne and Sydney on the arterial Hume Highway route.

The Dump-Ezy unit is in a caravan park which subscribes to the view that Australian road travellers should Leave no Trace and allows it to be used free.

GoSee found it at Holbrook Motor Village run by Trevor and Sharon Liddell. The easy access caravan park is a member of the Top Tourist Parks of Australia chain.

Good news from Lennox Head, NSW and Midge Point Qld as they shrug off tornado and cyclone events

'We have not got a scratch in our tourist area', Debbie Smith, Manager of Lake Ainsworth Holiday Park Lennox Head,NSW said today.

Robyn of Travellers Rest Caravan and Camping Park, Queensland said today that cyclone winds which hit tranquil Midge Point have had a benefit. The Top Tourist Park is much more open and airy and visitors can see to the ocean now.

Suzanne Vagne of Ballina Headlands Leisure Park said today that the Top Tourist chain member caravan park was fine.

Surprise packet Bligh Museum Bruny Island time capsule of great Pacific navigators

Chris Martyn of Captain Cook Memorial Caravan Park, South Bruny Island blew GoSee away with the almost casual comment that he thought the logs of William Bligh of the Bounty could be seen just up Adventure Bay Road.

He was right the Bligh Museum at Adventure Bay not only has Bligh's logs but the small church like brick museum is a time capsule of early Pacific explorers.

It houses direct links to the landings at Adventure Bay, Tasmania of some of the greatest explorer seamen ever to tread a deck.

Truganini had two alternatives - adapt or die.

The arrival of the White man brought violence, brutality and disease to her world.

This intelligent survivor was one of the first Australians caught in Australia's Black War.

Those comfortable with the proposition that Australians have never suffered the horrors of war on their own soil should perhaps consider Tasmania by the 1830's.

After a meeting in Brisbane with Toyota and Hayman Reese, followed by further phone conversations and emails GoSee understands that Toyota warrants its own brand which includes the Toyota towbar bar and standard or drop hitch.
